Requirements for the Minor

Speech-Language-Hearing Minor Course Requirements. Students selection this minor must complete the following:

  • Survey Communication Disorders. Satisfied by SPLH 261.
  • Speech-Language-Hearing Required Electives. Satisfied by least 4 SPLH courses (12 hours) from the following:

SPLH 120 The Physics of Speech (4)
SPLH 320 The Communicating Brain: The Ultimate Personal Computer (3)
SPLH 464 Undergraduate Seminar in: _____ (3)
SPLH 465 Fundamentals of Clinical Phonetics (1)
SPLH 466 Language Science (3)
SPLH 499 Directed Study in Speech-Language-Hearing (1-3)
SPLH 565 Language Sample Analysis Lab (1)
SPLH 566 Language Development (3)
SPLH 660 Research Methods in Speech-Language-Hearing (3)
SPLH 662 Principles of Speech Science (3)
SPLH 663 Principles of Hearing Science (3)

Courses with clinical content can be taken as directed study with the permission and support of a faculty mentor.

Minor Hours & Minor GPA

While completing all required courses, minors must also meet each of the following hour and grade-point average minimum standards:

Minor Hours
Satisfied by 18 hours of minor courses.

Minor Hours in Residence
Satisfied by a minimum of 9 junior/senior (300+) hours of KU resident credit in the minor. 

Minor Junior/Senior Hours
Satisfied by a minimum of 12 hours from junior/senior courses (300+) in the minor.
