An examination of Africa's social dynamics. Topics considered include: the origins of modern African societies, nations, and states; family structures and values; ethnicity, gender relations and patriarchy; social, political, economic and cultural institutions; African exceptionalism; contemporary African social dynamics; transnational migration; HIV/AIDS; political transitions; and Africa's place in the emerging global order.
